synopsis

Stories from five countries about people who change their lives in order to seek wealth and happiness through the worldwide auction fever on the Internet. They pursue the promises of an American corporation, which turns local flea markets into global business and sells its expansion strategy as the path towards a worldwide economic democracy. More than 150 million customers use eBay worldwide. Whatever you want to sell, whatever you want to buy - there is no place like eBay. The thrill of bidding, the excitement of winning against other bidders, buyers or sellers: this isn't just a portal on the net it is a gambling joint and shopper's paradise in one. Every day, hundreds of individual entrepreneurs join the race to find their fortune on eBay. Many try to become so-called "power sellers" eager to believe that they too can succeed in a system in which everybody can win.

By following colourful characters in different countries and sharing their eBay experience, this film shows their defeats and successes. It also takes a look behind the scenes of the company's headquarters in California and presents the strategy of a Chinese genius, who causes a lot of trouble for eBay as its main competitor. Traders´Dreams is a human, character-driven film with both tears and laughter, which offers an important insight into a global phenomenon of our time.
